Respiratory services are available at our nursing homes for our residents with breathing impairments to help control or lessen their symptoms or complications.
Tracheostomy Care—We provide daily care of the trach site to help prevent infection and skin breakdown under the tracheostomy tube and ties. This care is done every day and sometimes more frequently. Tracheostomy dressings are used if there is drainage from the tracheostomy site or irritation from the tube rubbing on the skin.
Ventilator Support—A ventilator is a machine that mechanically helps patients in the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide (sometimes referred to as artificial respiration). We offer ventilation support at selected locations to help residents who have trouble breathing. As they become more comfortable breathing on their own, we implement a weaning program to remove them from the ventilator and start them on a program of respiratory therapy.
Respiratory Therapy—Respiratory therapy is a program of exercises and treatments designed to help patients maintain and recover lung function after suffering illness, injury or surgery. Our respiratory therapists are specially trained to provide respiratory care under the supervision of your physician.
